Overview

This electric bike ride starts near Plaza Mayor and ends up in what was once a royal hunting forest, all within a couple of hours. The route runs from the old city center past the Royal Palace and Opera House at Plaza de Oriente, through the Sabatini Gardens, and down San Vicente Hill to the Manzanares river. Crossing the water, the tour enters Casa de Campo, the largest urban park in Europe according to the operator.

Inside the park the pace changes completely. The group passes the lake where madrileños row boats and barbecue on weekends, then, with the motor taking the strain, climbs the park's highest hill for a skyline view over Madrid. The return leg drops back toward the river, pausing at Huerta de la Partida for a view of the Cathedral and Royal Palace before riding back into the center.

The battery assist is the point of the whole thing: hills that would be a slog on a normal bike become manageable, which makes this a fit for riders who are not confident cyclists. One reviewer said they were not very good at riding a bike and still had an excellent time thanks to a patient guide. Families with children have also enjoyed it, with one reviewer noting stops at playgrounds along the way. You can select hotel pickup and drop-off when booking, or start and finish at the meeting point on Calle de Santiago.

What To Expect From The Tour

The booking page is clear about what is and is not provided, and the reviews fill in the practical details of how the ride actually feels.

  • Fitness and pace. The e-bike motor assists your pedaling, so the hills on this route, including the climb in Casa de Campo, are described as comfortable rather than a workout. One reviewer said the bikes were easy to use, and another said their guide let the group go at their own pace.
  • What is provided. Electric bike, helmet (not mandatory), raincoats, baskets, locks and a map of central Madrid are all included, along with a guide who speaks English and Spanish. One reviewer mentioned a small pouch on the bike for valuables and a drink bottle, and lockers at the office where large bags can be left.
  • What to bring. The operator recommends comfortable shoes, a sun hat and sunscreen. Large bags and luggage are not allowed on the tour, and one reviewer mentioned lockers at the office where large bags can be left.

  • Group feel. One reviewer ended up as the only couple on a departure and found it felt really personal. That reviewer also mentioned a guide happily taking photos for guests, and another noted stops at playgrounds for the kids. Larger groups should check availability with the operator.
  • Weather and seasons. Raincoats are included with the bike, so some wet-weather preparation is already handled. Most of the ride is outdoors, in the open city and under trees in Casa de Campo, so dress for the day's conditions.
  • Seeing a different Madrid. Several travellers picked this tour specifically to see greener, less touristic parts of the city, and mentioned spots like the Arganzuela Footbridge and the riverside path as highlights. One reviewer described it as a different view of Madrid after a few days of the main sights.
